FLYING TELLURIDE SKIES WITH CONVENIENCE
|
| What is so integral to Telluride’s charm is also part of the town’s limitation — its off-the-beaten-path location. Fortunately, you have to drive about an hour to find a stoplight; in the past you would have to drive the same distance to find multiple flight carrier convenience. But the Telluride Regional Airport is now in the process of changing that. |

Telluride Regional Airport is upgrading its runway for more direct convenience
|
The Federal Aviation Administration granted the Telluride airport (TEX) $21 million to complete Phase II of the runway improvement project which, when complete, will wave in additional types of commercial aircraft. The airport's upgraded safety rating will allow it to accommodate the Bombardier Q400, a 70-plus passenger aircraft with coast to coast range allowing for more direct flights in and out of Telluride.
The Telluride airport closed in April and will reopen November 2. While TEX is under construction, the Montrose Regional Airport and Durango-La Plata Airport are serving Telluride’s visitors and commuters.
The FAA mandated the four-phase airport improvement project that is slated for completion in 2012 when TEX’s safety rating will bump up from B3 to D3. |
