We had a great early snow this week with 9 inches falling in town and considerably more up on the mountain. Opening day is just around the corner!
For the second consecutive year, Telluride was ranked the number two resort in North America in the Conde Nast Reader's Poll. The top 20 ski resorts were ranked based on terrain, lifts and lines, après-ski, dining, and ambience. Telluride's number two position was bolstered by it's top marks for Terrain & Lifts (95.2%) and Local Ambience (93%). At #2, Telluride was the top ranked U.S. resort. So, Don't forget to buy your season pass before October 30th!
We thought you might be interested in some photos demonstrating the current status of the Telluride Regional Airport improvement project. Currently Phase II of a 3 part project is under way at the cost of approximately $21 million. This phase will upgrade the safety designation from B3 to a D3 designation. This is being accomplished with the addition of 250 feet of safety over run on either side of the centerline rather than the current 150 feet. Additionally at either end of the runway a product called Emas (engineered material arresting system) will be installed.
A recent report funded by the Telluride Mountain Village Owners Association and conducted by Ecosign Mountain Resort Planners consists of a series of analytics and calculations pointing to a more vibrant Mountain Village. Paul Mathews,president of Ecosign, recently unveiled his top 10 recommendations at a recent meeting held in Mountain Village.
The Telluride Ski Resort announced plans to open up more terrain this year which continues their three year expansion trend. As was previously the case, this new terrain will also be in Prospect Bowl located on the face of Gold Hill. With this new addition, skier's will be able to ski practically the entire face of Gold Hill, all 1,600 vertical feet of it. Very few skiers have experienced these new chutes. This addition will continue to place Telluride at the forefront of ski resorts in the United States as well as Europe.
